It's really interesting that while this did deviate from the source material, Where in King's material the father in spirit redeemed himself and closure and peace was made, Kubrick's has that darker tone to where even in death and cursed to servitude to the overlook, although Jack is given details into what happened post overlook events, he has no remorse for his actions and with what little restraints the overlook might have on him at this point let's Danny have it.
